A Day in the Life of Wigmore Evangelical Free Church

( a Sunday to be exact )

Our Sunday morning service starts at 11.00

There is a friendly greeting
at the door by one of our Church members who also hands out hymn books and Bibles to those who need them.  There are no special or ‘privileged’ seats at Wigmore so folk can sit exactly where they please although, like most churches, people seem to avoid the front rows (strange, but nevertheless true).

We are blessed to have several very proficient  keyboard players and one of these will be playing some quiet background music until our Pastor (or whoever is leading the service) takes his place at the front of the Church.

During the service we sing hymns and songs (some traditional and some of the more modern Christian songs), there will be prayers and one or two Bible readings and often a talk specially for the children before they go out into the crèche or Treasure Seekers (Sunday School) where they have their own special activities.

We always have a sermon (or talk) which is usually given by our Pastor.  This is based around the earlier Bible readings and helps us to understand the Scriptures and apply the lessons we have learnt to our own lives.  After a final hymn and a prayer, the formal part of the service finishes (usually just after noon) and everyone is free to say hello and chat and to ask any questions they may have.

The Church doors close at about 12.30 and it’s home to lunch.

At 6.30, we are back for the  evening service (which lasts about one hour).  The format is very similar to the morning service except that there is no children’s talk, crèche or Treasure Seekers.  We do, however, enjoy coffee, tea & biscuits and good conversation together before saying goodbye for another Sunday.

Everything we do at Wigmore is based around the  Bible which we believe is the inerrant Word of God.  The Bible teaches that we are all sinners in God’s sight and are in need of His saving grace which is made possible for us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Our Church is full of ordinary people whose lives have been touched and changed by Jesus.  The Bible tells us that ‘God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life’ John chapter 3 verse 16.

If you want to know more about the salvation  and new life that God wants you to have, make a point of coming to see us next Sunday.   God bless you.
